WASHINGTON, D.C. – Americans for Clean Aviation Fuels (ACAF) issued the below statement today in response to the release of the Biden administration’s long-awaited GREET model guidance. ACAF is the first national coalition to bring together diverse members across the full SAF value chain—from farmers, fuel producers and manufacturers, to aviation and agribusiness.
Nick Boeyink, ACAF States Director, said:
“The administration’s GREET model guidance takes a step forward on the path to building a successful domestic SAF industry and achieving the President’s goal of a net-zero aviation sector by 2050. SAF represents an enormous economic opportunity for America’s heartland communities, with the potential to attract over $1.5 trillion in private investment, create or support over 400,000 jobs at its peak, and generate $78 billion in new economic gains.
“By recognizing the proven role of sustainable farming practices in reducing lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions in agriculture, the administration’s guidance cracks open the door for American farmers to reap the enormous economic benefits of SAF. While we are encouraged by this initial signal from the administration, there remains a need for greater regulatory clarity and flexibility that incentivizes American farmers to make the substantial investments needed to implement climate smart agriculture (CSA) practices. Going forward, the administration must continue to craft a regulatory framework that provides the ability for American farmers to implement more CSA practices that are regionally appropriate, which extensive study has shown to be fully verifiable, quantifiable and transparent.
“We will continue to work across industries and around the country to make the case for a smart regulatory framework that unlocks SAF’s economic benefits for farmers, fuel producers, manufacturers, aviation and agribusiness.”
